WASHINGTON — AJ Dybantsa is OUT for Friday’s contest vs. the Toronto Raptors, Brian Keefe said after Thursday’s practice.
Dybantsa, who sprained his left ankle in Washington’s preseason finale last Friday, remains day-to-day. Keefe said the team’s No. 1 pick is progressing in his recovery.
The Wizards begin a back-to-back when they welcome the Raptors to Capital One Arena on Friday. They travel to Chicago to face the Bulls the following night.
Champagnie talks winning impact
Justin Champagnie has carved out a role by making winning plays in front of sparse crowds with little-to-no stakes riding on the game’s outcome. The latter wasn’t his fault, considering the Wizards were tanking and losing games by 20-plus most nights.
He made those same plays to spark Washington’s comeback win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. And this time, he galvanized a crowd worthy of such a performance.
“It was amazing. Probably the most hype I’ve seen the gym since I’ve been here. Probably the most energy we’ve had in there since I’ve been here,” Champagnie said. “You can see the difference. You can feel the difference when you walk in the gym. The energy is just higher.”
