WASHINGTON — Less than 14 hours after a 111-109 win over the New York Knicks to open preseason play, the Wizards returned to CareFirst Arena for an early practice.

Alex Sarr, who missed Thursday’s game but is close to returning, is trending toward returning on Saturday, Brian Keefe said after Friday’s practice. Keefe said they’ll know more about Sarr’s official status tomorrow.

Khris Middleton (ramp up) is also nearing a return.

Dybantsa’s defense

AJ Dybantsa — fresh off an 11-point, four-steal debut at Madison Square Garden — said he learned that patience is key when initiating offense.

“Definitely a little jitters seeing an NBA team in front of you,” Dybantsa said. “[But] at the end of the day, it’s just hoops. After you get the jitters out, score a point, get a defensive stop on the best players in the world, you kind of settle in.”
