WASHINGTON — Wizards fans who kept their Bilal Coulibaly stock are beaming after his impressive shooting performance against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
The Wizards opened with their usual starters minus Anthony Davis, who missed Monday’s contest with a scheduled rest day. Alex Sarr moved to power forward, and Deandre Ayton started at center — a possible starting combination when Davis is out of the lineup.
Coulibaly and George didn’t miss from three in a high-scoring opening quarter. Brooklyn led 73-72 at halftime before a Wizards barrage, led by Trae Young’s passing and multiple highlight-reel dunks from AJ Dybantsa, retook the lead.
Turnovers — eight by Young — and poor defense destroyed that momentum. Brooklyn led by nine entering the final frame and, despite Bub Carrington’s best efforts, pulled away to earn a 131-122 win.
Here are three takeaways from preseason Game 3:
Coulibaly wants that extension (George also looked great)
It can’t get much better than the 5-for-5 3PT start George and Coulibaly combined for in the first quarter of Monday’s contest.
George opened the game with a patient step-through move into a mid-range jumper. He followed with a put-back layup before tossing a transition lob to AJ Dybantsa that ignited Capital One Arena.
