WASHINGTON — I’m sure Commanders fans have never waited on a Wizards preseason game before. But here we are at Capital One Arena, one day after one of the worst debacles in NFL history, for a preseason tilt between the Wizards and the Brooklyn Nets.
Washington will play its starters — minus Anthony Davis, who has a scheduled rest day — to build endurance as opening night nears. Expect similar, if not extended, minutes for those players.
Khris Middleton (ramp-up), Tristan Vukcevic (hip impingement) and Jamir Watkins (ACL tear) remain out.
Tre Mann, who missed Saturday’s game with “general soreness,” will return Monday. The shifty guard scored six points and added five rebounds and four assists against the New York Knicks.
In case you missed it: Bilal Coulibaly is eligible for a rookie-scale extension. The deadline is 6 p.m. on Oct. 19, which is exactly one week from today. Here’s the full breakdown, for wizardscentral.com subscribers, of that contract situation and the expected outcome:
“[Bilal] is super valuable to our team. Starting with the defensive presence that he brings to our team, that's a really unique skill,” Keefe said. “He has been a game changer for us. He embraces that role, and then he has the ability to put pressure on the rim in a lot of different ways: cutting, offensive rebounding, attacking the basket. He brings something that we need in our roster, and that's someone we can play on the other team's best players. And that is a super valuable guy to have. We're thrilled that he's here.”
