WASHINGTON — Wizards fans have long known Justin Champagnie is an impactful player. It’s why Washington received palpable interest from contending teams who wanted to acquire the 25-year-old wing at least season’s trade deadline.
His rebounding, hustle and occasional poster dunks were bright spots throughout a grueling rebuild. But his impact was often lost in 20-point blowout losses.
Now surrounded by talented players on a team driven to win, Champagnie’s winning plays are finally leading to wins. He’s a huge reason the Wizards are 2-1 for the first time since 2022.
“I pride myself on doing the winning things,” Champagnie said after the Wizards’ opening-night win. “I pride myself on being that kind of player. Whenever my number is called, I’m ready to go.”
