CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Washington Wizards were thoroughly dominated on the glass in their 110-103 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Monday at Spectrum Center.
It wasn’t just poor box-outs or a lack of hustle that allowed Charlotte to tally 20 offensive rebounds and 26 second-chance points. It was the combination of both that let a depleted Hornets team dominate Washington.
“Obviously, they had too many offensive rebounds, too many second-chance points,” Brian Keefe said. “I loved our fight and competitiveness at the end, but obviously the rebounding was the major issue.”
The Wizards were out-rebounded 54-41 in Monday’s loss. Moussa Diabate, Charlotte’s energetic center, skied for 11 offensive rebounds. His effort alone encapsulated Washington’s shortcomings, both in rebounding and effort.
“Box out, hit somebody,” Anthony Davis said. “Honestly, [Diabate] is a great offensive rebounder. That’s what he does — gets their team multiple possessions. But it’s our job to keep him off the boards. We gotta do a better job as a unit of boxing out.”
