WASHINGTON — Saturday marked the debut of Washington’s double-big lineup featuring Sarr and Davis. And the early returns are promising.

To open the contest, the Wizards had Sarr guard the more athletic/versatile of the two bigs (John Collins) and put Davis on the more traditional big (Paul Reed). It’s a small sample size, but this could preview their defensive scheme with both bigs on the floor.

It allows Sarr to roam the perimeter and search for blocks in help coverage, while Davis mans the paint and grabs defensive rebounds.

Washington outscored Detroit 18-8 in the paint in the first quarter. Sarr (8 PTS, 3-5 FG) threw down a put-back dunk for his first points. Davis (10 PTS, 11 REB) finished two lobs and fought for an offensive rebound before putting it back up and in. The duo even connected in the third quarter when Davis rifled a pass to Sarr for a corner three.

Brian Keefe liked what he saw from his frontcourt duo.

“I think you saw at the start of the game the impact we had defensively,” Keefe said. “Being able to protect the rim, roam around, help each other. Then you saw the connection. AD hit [Sarr] in the second half for a corner three, so some good chemistry things we saw out there. Nice to see Alex back in action.”
