WASHINGTON — Exactly one week from the rookie-scale extension deadline, Bilal Coulibaly played like someone eyeing a new contract.
The 22-year-old scored 19 points and made his five 3-pointers in the Wizards’ 131-122 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
It marked a breakthrough moment for Coulibaly, a career 31.3% 3-point shooter who’s overhauled jump shot is already paying dividends.
“It feels good,” Coulibaly said. “I’ve been putting a lot of work in on that this summer, so I knew it was about to happen.”
Coulibaly, equipped with a quicker, more fluid shooting release, drilled all three of his 3-point attempts in the first quarter. Two came from the corner, with the other on the wing. And it didn’t stop there.
