WASHINGTON — Anthony Davis heard the offseason buzz.
Some said he’d never stay healthy enough to contribute at this stage of his career. Others scoffed at his fit with the Wizards as a 33-year-old seeking a new contract on a team full of budding stars learning how to win. And many requested a trade on his behalf despite his several statements praising the Wizards organization.
That noise evaporated after Davis dropped 34 points and 12 rebounds in a dominant debut. His 18-point third quarter, backed by “MVP!” chants from the home crowd, propelled the Wizards to a 128-116 comeback win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday at Capital One Arena.
It was Davis’ introduction to the Wizards faithful. And it didn’t disappoint.
“I’m just happy to be here. Happy to be playing basketball again,” Davis said. “The outside noise, whatever they say, it doesn’t matter to me. My job is to play basketball, and that’s what I’m trying to do.”
