Here’s how the Wizards acquired or traded these picks.

2027

First Round:

• Own: Can’t be No. 1. The updated lottery rules stipulate that a team can’t win the No. 1 overall pick in consecutive years.

Second Round:

• Own: TRADED to NYK: Traded in a 2020 deal that sent John Wall and a protected first-round pick to the Houston Rockets for Russell Westbrook. The protections held up on the outgoing first-round pick, so Washington sent two second-round picks to New York (who acquired the pick rights via another trade), the latter being this 2027 second-round selection.

• More Favorable: BKN/DAL: Acquired in a July 2023 that sent Monte Morris to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for this selection.

• Less favorable: PHX/GSW: The Wizards acquired the Golden State Warriors’ 2027 second-round pick in the 2023 Jordan Poole trade after they acquired the Phoenix Suns’ 2027 second-round pick in the Bradley Beal trade. At the February 2025 trade deadline, Washington sent the more favorable of those two selections to the Philadelphia 76ers, which means they now own the least favorable of the two picks.

• Second-most favorable via LAC: Complex conditions: Washington acquired this pick in an August 2026 deal that sent Cam Whitmore to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Tre Mann. The Wizards' will receive the second-most favorable of the following 2027 second-round picks:
  (a) the more favorable of Golden State and Phoenix,
  (b) the most favorable of Houston, Indiana, Miami, and Oklahoma City and
  (c) Philadelphia's pick.

2028

First Round:

• Own: More favorable of WAS/PHX: The Wizards own the right to swap 2028 first-round picks with the Suns (via the 2023 Bradley Beal trade) if their picks falls lower than Phoenix’s.

Second Round:

• Less Favorable: WAS/LAL: The Wizards acquired this selection as part of the 2023 trade that sent Rui Hachimura to the Los Angeles Lakers for Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks.

• DEN (If between 34-60 —> WAS): The Wizards acquired this selection in a 2025 deal that sent Jonas Valanciunas to the Sacramento Kings for Sidy Cissoko and two second-round picks. If the pick falls between 31-33, Sacramento keeps it. If it falls between 34-60, Washington keeps it.

2029

First Round:

• Own

• Second-Most Favorable: POR/BOS/MIL: The Wizards acquired this selection in the 2024 trade that sent Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers for Malcolm Brogdon, the No. 14 pick (Bub Carrington) and a 2029 first-round pick. Portland will send Washington the second best selection between its own, Boston’s and Milwaukee’s 2029 first-round picks.

Second Round:

• Own: Traded to IND or POR: Washington traded its 2029 second-round pick to move up one spot and select Bilal Coulibaly with the No. 7 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. The Pacers will receive the more favorable of their own and the Wizards’ selection, while the Trail Blazers will recieve the less favorable of the two.

2030

First Round:

• Own: More favorable of WAS/PHX: The Wizards own the right to swap 2028 first-round picks with the Suns (via the 2023 Bradley Beal trade) if their picks falls lower than Phoenix’s. This is the final year Washington is eligible to swap picks with Phoenix as part of that trade.

Second Round:

• Own: Traded to PHI: The Wizards sent their 2030 second-round pick to Philadelphia at the 2025 trade deadline in a package that netted Reggie Jackson and what became Oklahoma City’s 2026 first-round pick (No. 30) that they later sent to the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Anthony Davis.

• Less Favorable: PHX/POR: The Wizards acquired Portland’s 2030 second-round selection in the 2024 trade that sent Deni Avdija to the Trail Blazers. They also acquired Phoenix’s 2030 second-round pick in the 2023 Bradley Beal trade. But after dealing their own 2030 second rounder to Philadelphia, the order of operations goes as follows:

  • Most Favorable of WAS/PHX/POR —> Boston

  • Less Favorable of (1) the better of PHX/POR and (2) WAS —> Philadelphia

  • Least Favorable of PHX/POR —> Washington

2031

• Own: Traded to LAL: The Wizards sent this pick to the Lakers in the July 2026 Deandre Ayton trade.

• More Favorable: MIA/IND: The Wizards acquired this pick in the 2025 draft-night deal that sent the No. 18 pick to the Utah Jazz for the No. 21 pick (Will Riley), No. 43 pick (Jamir Watkins) and two future second-round selections, one of which being this 2031 pick that’s the more favorable of Miami and Indiana’s selections.
